Round 7 - National Sorry Day

26 May 2023 by Tod Brealey

Hi Bombers,

As you may know, today is National Sorry Day.

This is a time to remember the survivors, families and descendants of the Stolen Generations. Sorry Day is a reminder of the past injustices to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023 is Be a Voice for Generations.

The theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise. For the work of generations past, and the benefit of generations future, let’s act today for a more just, equitable and reconciled country for all.

For me, this is an opportunity to learn and understand. If you have a little bit of time, I encourage you to listen to Took the Children Away by Archie Roach, read publications on the Reconciliation Australia website https://www.reconciliation.org.au/our-work/national-reconciliation-week/ or watch Rabbit Proof Fence. These activities have assisted me to reflect on our history.

As a footy club let’s continue to be an environment that celebrates diversity, promotes inclusivity, and actively works towards reconciliation.

Friday Night Footy – strapping workshops
A massive night at the Hangar tonight. There are five games with the first bounce at 5:30. For all u12 and up families club sponsor Physio Inc will be running 45-minute workshops from 6:30 and 7:30.
The Steak Out is also providing a lamb roast from 6 PM.
A DJ is coming along as well. It will be a brilliant night.

Game this weekend
Please connect with your team manager to confirm game times for this week. There have been some changes to the draw for round 7 due to the redivisionalisation in the competition.

Good for Footy
I will share more about Good for Footy over the coming weeks. All parents and carers have received an email about Good for Footy.

Last year we raised over $20K for our club and were featured in a Toyota TV ad during AFL finals week (I still see it during AFL games). This year, we need your help to do it again!

We’re asking all players to sell 20 tickets by the end of July.

There are 3 Toyota cars to be won and tons of other footy prizes like a coaching clinic by a professional AFL star, signed jerseys, $2000 rebel gift cards and LOADS more!

To top it off, the Bomber’s team that sells the most tickets (pro rata) gets a team party!

Please keep on selling, in one week we have achieved 10% of our goal.

I look forward to connecting with you at the Hangar tonight,

Best regards

Tod
President MAFC
